Global Google Server Down
Earlier
today Google was down for 15 minutes. While their company spokesman
said it was a DNS issue
"It was not a hacking or a security issue," said Krane.
He said the problem was related to the DNS, or Domain Name System,
though Krane did not elaborate. The DNS translates domain names
for computers.
"Google's global properties were unavailable for a short
period of time," Krane said. "We've remedied the problem
and access to Google has been restored worldwide."

DoubleClick Sold for $1.1 bn. to private equity firm Hellman &
Friedman
Online
advertising company DoubleClick has been bought by private equity
firm Hellman & Friedman for $1.1 bn. The company has been
under pressure in recent times despite an uplift in online advertising.
Last week it reported a loss of $900,000 in the first quarter
of 2005, compared to a profit of $7.7m the previous year as prices
for its services were squeezed. Managing director of Hellman
& Friedman Philip Hammarskjold said he hopes to “help
realise the company’s significant opportunities for growth
in both its online advertising and marketing and data businesses.”
“
DoubleClick has two outstanding franchises with strong presence
in their marketplaces,” he said.
President of DoubleClick and CEO of its TechSolutions division
David Rosenblatt will continue in his role and Brian Rainey will
remain as CEO of the DataSolutions division.
- Site-Targeted
Ads - a new enhancement to Google AdWords
Site targeting lets advertisers choose individual sites in the
Google content network where they'd like their ads to appear.
Since Google first introduced AdWords, advertisers have asked
us for the ability to run their ads on specific websites. Site
targeting gives our users that ability, while also allowing their
ads to compete for ranking with traditional keyword-targeted AdWords
ads. It's one more tool that AdWords advertisers can use to bring
their message to highly-targeted groups of web users.
